Robert Alexander Palmer, 1st Baron Rusholme1 
He was educated at St. Mary’s School, Ashton-on-Mersey, Cheshire, England.1 He was with the Co-operative Union Ltd in 1909.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, in Egypt, France and Belgium.1 He was General Secretary of the Co-operative Union Ltd in 1929.1 He was President of the Internation Co-operative Alliance between 1939 and 1948.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He was created 1st Baron Rusholme, of Rusholme,in the City of Manchester [U.K.] on 1 December 1945.1 He was member of the British Transport Commission between 1947 and 1959.1 On his death his barony became extinct.2
