He was given the name of Francis Edward Fitzherbert at birth.1 He was educated at Beaumont College, Old Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of officer in 1877 in the Lancashire Militia.1 He gained the rank of officer between 1882 and 1898 in the Staffordshire Yeomanry.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.1 He gained the rank of Captain and Honorary Major in the Queen’s Own Staffordshire Imperial Yeomany.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Staffordshire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Staffordshire.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902, where he was mentioned in dispatches.1 He succeeded as the 12th Baron Stafford, of co. Stafford [E., 1640] on 12 June 1913.1 On 22 November 1913 his name was legally changed to Francis Edward Fitzherbert-Stafford by Royal Licence.1 He gained the rank of Major and Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in the 3rd Battalion, Royal Lancaster Regiment.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Staffordshire Volunteer Regiment.1
