Sir Joseph Wesley Flavelle, 1st Bt. was born on 15 February 1858.1 He was the son of John Flavelle and Dorothea Dundas.1 He married Clara Ellsworth, daughter of Reverend Oren H. Ellsworth, on 20 September 1882.1 He died on 7 March 1939 at age 81.1
He was Governor at Toronto University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.1 He was chairman of National Trust Company.1 He was chairman of Ontario Research Foundation.1 He was chairman of the Grand Trunk Railway.1 He was chairman of the Canadian Bank of Commerce.1 He was chairman of the Imperial Munitions Board.2 He was created 1st Baronet Flavelle, of Toronto, Canada [U.K.] on 18 July 1917.1 He was member of the Royal Commission on Railways and Transportation between 1931 and 1932.1
