Admiral Sir Edmund Samuel Poë was born on 11 September 1849 at Durraghmore, County Tipperary, Ireland.2 He was the son of William Thomas Poë and Mary Ellen Leslie. He married Frances Catherine Sheil, daughter of Sir Justin Sheil, in 1877.1 He died on 1 April 1921 at age 71.2
He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.)
