Johann Friedrich I Kurfürst von Sachsen was born on 30 June 1503 at Torgau, GermanyG. He was the son of Johann Kurfürst von Sachsen and Sophie von Mecklenburg.1 He married Sybille von der Mark-Kleve, daughter of Johann III Graf von der Mark Herzog von Kleve Jülich und Berg and Marie Herzogin von Jülich und Berg, circa 1526. He died on 3 March 1554 at age 50 at Weimar, GermanyG.
Johann Friedrich I Kurfürst von Sachsen also went by the nick-name of Johann ‘the Magnanimous’.1 He was a member of the House of Wettin.1 He succeeded as the Kurfürst von Sachsen in 1532.1 He was deposed as Elector of Saxony in 1547.
