     He was admitted to Gray’s Inn.¹ He held the office of Bencher of Gray’s Inn in 1617.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Canterbury between 1620 and 1622.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Winchelsea from 1624 to 1625.¹ He was appointed Knight in 1625.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Canterbury from 1625 to 1626.¹ He was Attorney-General to Queen Henrietta Maria in 1626.¹ He was appointed King’s Counsel (K.C.)¹ He held the office of Speaker, House of Commons from 1628 to 1629.¹ He held the office of Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas between 1634 and 1640.¹ He held the office of High Steward of Cambridge in 1640.¹ He held the office of Lord Keeper of the Great Seal from 1640 to 1641.¹ He was created 1st Baron Finch of Fordwich, co. Kent [England] on 7 April 1640.¹

     Eleanor Wyatt is the daughter of George Wyatt and Jane Finch.¹ She married John Finch, 1st Baron Finch of Fordwich, son of Sir Henry Finch and Ursula Thwaites.¹
     Her married name became Finch.¹

     Mabel Fotherby is the daughter of Very Rev. Charles Fotherby.¹ She married John Finch, 1st Baron Finch of Fordwich, son of Sir Henry Finch and Ursula Thwaites, before 14 March 1644/45.¹
     After her marriage, Mabel Fotherby was styled as Baroness Finch of Fordwich. From before 14 March 1644/45, her married name became Finch.¹

     Very Rev. Charles Fotherby held the office of Dean of Canterbury.¹
