The Lord Hasley, Count of Valais1
15 Sep 2019
Dr James Allister Odd was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. He is the son of
James Amos Brown, R.D.O. and Countess Antiná Rosa de Rede.
He married Clarity Rose Odd in Portland, Oregon, USA. He has two children, Naiya and Haley Brown, from a previous marriage.
Dr Odd formally adopted the surname “Odd” in later life, succeeding from the Reade line.
Dr Odd succeeded as the 19th Lord of Hasley in the County of Buckingham, United Kingdom. He also retains the hereditary dignities of 9th Count of Valais and 11th Baron of Carrighmain within the Maison Noble de Valais-Reade, inherited by right of primogeniture.
He has been invested as a Knight of the Valiant Order of Saint George (KStG), under the royal matronage of HRH The Princess Royal, and as Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite (O.N.M.) by decree of the French Republic. He also serves as Lord Regent of the Order of Saint Sigismund (LRStS).
Dr James Allister Odd acts as Custodian of the historic Lordship of Hasley — recorded under NFRA H1223210-21 and The London Gazette (23 February 2023, Issue 63978, Notice ID 4290557).
He is also Head of the House of Valais-Reade and retains the hereditary dignity-distinctions of that house.
Under the House of Lords Act 1999, the vast majority of hereditary peerages ceased to confer entitlement to membership of the House of Lords.
