He gained the rank of Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Navy.2 He fought in the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916.2
Patrick Robin Gilbert Vanden-Bempde-Johnstone, 4th Baron Derwent 

Patrick Robin Gilbert Vanden-Bempde-Johnstone, 4th Baron Derwent was born on 26 October 1901.2 He was the son of Edward Henry Vanden-Bempde-Johnstone and Hon. Evelyn Mary Agar-Ellis.3 He married Marie-Louise Henriette Picard, daughter of Albert Picard, on 7 December 1929.2 He died in 1986.2
He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, EnglandG.3 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 On 14 August 1929 he was granted the rank of a baron’s younger son.2 He gained the rank of Major in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps.2 He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Vanden-Bempde-Johnstone, of Hackness Hall, Yorkshire [G.B., 1795] on 12 January 1949.3 He succeeded as the 4th Baron Derwent, of Hackness, in the North Riding of co. York [U.K., 1881] on 12 January 1949.3 He held the office of Junior Oppisition Whip, House of Lords between 1950 and 1951.2 He held the office of Minister of State, Board of Trade between 1962 and 1963.2 He held the office of Minister of State, Home Office between 1963 and 1964.2 He held the office of Deputy Speaker, House of Lords between 1970 and 1986.2 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1974.2

Evelyn Mary Agar-Ellis, on 7 December 1929.1 She died in 1985.1
From before 1929, her married name became Myburgh.1 After her marriage, Marie-Louise Henriette Picard was styled as Baroness Derwent on 7 December 1929. From 7 December 1929, her married name became Vanden-Bempde-Johnstone.
