     William Douglas Caroe was born on 1 September 1857 at Holmesdale, Lancashire, England.1 He was the son of Anders Kruuse Caroe and Jane Kirkpatrick Green.1 He married Grace Desborough Rendall, daughter of John Rendall, in 1891.1 He died on 25 February 1938 at age 80 at Latomia, Kyrenia, Cyprus.1
     He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He was an architect.1 He was president of the Architectural Association between 1895 and 1896.1
