Maj.-Gen. Sir William Sharp, 6th Bt.1 
He was educated at St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.1 He fought in the Jacobite Uprising in 1745, where he was captured by the British, condemned to death but escaped to France in 1747.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1761 in the French Army.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1762 in the Portuguese Army.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1763 in the 1st Infantry Regiment.1 He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Sharp, of Scotscraig, co. Fife [N.S., 1683] in 1769.2 On 8 April 1769 he obtained a pardon from King George III.2 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1775.1
