     Lt.-Gen. Alexander Bethune was baptised on 20 August 1771 at St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.¹ He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Sir William Sharp, 6th Bt. and Margaret Bethune.² He married Maria Low, daughter of Robert Low, in 1820.¹ He died in December 1847 at age 76.¹
     He was given the name of Alexander Sharp at birth. He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Sharp, of Scotscraig, co. Fife [N.S., 1683] on 13 February 1780, de jure.¹

     Elinor Mary Watt was the daughter of John Brown Watt.¹ She married Lt.-Col. Henry Alexander Bethune, son of Major Robert Bethune and Mary Louisa Hale, on 2 September 1902.¹ She died on 25 June 1955.¹
     From 2 September 1902, her married name became Bethune.

     Maj.-Gen. Sir William Sharp, 6th Bt. was born on 28 January 1729 at St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.¹ He was the son of Sir Alexander Sharp, 5th Bt. and Margaret Hamilton.¹ He married, firstly, Margaret Bethune, daughter of John Bethune, 5th of Blebo and Janet Scrimgeour.² He married, secondly, Ana Francisca da Gama Lobo, daughter of Lt.-Col. Francisco Xavier da Silva Lobo, in 1777 at Olivença, Portugal.¹ He died on 13 February 1780 at age 51 at St. Marylebone, London, England.¹
     He was educated at St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.¹ He fought in the Jacobite Uprising in 1745, where he was captured by the British, condemned to death but escaped to France in 1747.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1761 in the French Army.¹ He gained the rank of Major in 1762 in the Portuguese Army.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in 1763 in the 1st Infantry Regiment.¹ He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Sharp, of Scotscraig, co. Fife [N.S., 1683] in 1769.² On 8 April 1769 he obtained a pardon from King George III.² He gained the rank of Major-General in 1775.¹

     Sir Alexander Sharp, 5th Bt. was born in 1697.¹ He was the son of Sir William Sharp, 1st Bt. and Margaret Erskine.² He married Margaret Hamilton, daughter of Philip Hamilton, circa 1728.² He died in 1769.¹
     He was a merchant at St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.² He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Sharp, of Scotscraig, co. Fife [N.S., 1683] circa 1750.²

     Margaret Hamilton was born in 1697.¹ She was the daughter of Philip Hamilton.² She married Sir Alexander Sharp, 5th Bt., son of Sir William Sharp, 1st Bt. and Margaret Erskine, circa 1728.² She died on 11 December 1783.²
     From circa 1728, her married name became Sharp.¹

     Margaret Bethune was born circa 1729.¹ She was the daughter of John Bethune, 5th of Blebo and Janet Scrimgeour.¹ She married, firstly, Maj.-Gen. Sir William Sharp, 6th Bt., son of Sir Alexander Sharp, 5th Bt. and Margaret Hamilton.² She married, secondly, William Bethune in 1782.¹ She died in 1791.¹
     Her married name became Sharp.² From 1782, her married name became Chalmers.¹

     John Bethune, 5th of Blebo was born in 1699.¹ He was the son of James Bethune, 4th of Blebo.¹ He married Janet Scrimgeour.¹ He died in 1779.¹

     Janet Scrimgeour was born circa 1705.¹ She married John Bethune, 5th of Blebo, son of James Bethune, 4th of Blebo.¹ She died in 1738.¹
     Her married name became Bethune.¹

     Ana Francisca da Gama Lobo is the daughter of Lt.-Col. Francisco Xavier da Silva Lobo.¹ She married Maj.-Gen. Sir William Sharp, 6th Bt., son of Sir Alexander Sharp, 5th Bt. and Margaret Hamilton, in 1777 at Olivença, Portugal.¹
     From 1777, her married name became Sharp.¹
