Admiral Sir William Robert Mends1 

Admiral Sir William Robert Mends was born on 27 February 1812 at Plymouth, Devon, England.1 He was the son of Admiral William Bowen Mends.1 He married Melita Stilon in December 1837 at Malta.1 He died on 26 June 1897 at age 85.1
He was educated at Royal Naval College, Portsmouth, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 20 May 1871.1 He gained the rank of Admiral on 15 June 1879.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) on 24 November 1882.1
