     Michael Elphinstone, 1st of Quarell was born on 23 December 1593.1 He was the son of Alexander Elphinstone, 4th Lord Elphinstone and Jean Livingstone.1 He married Mary Bruce, daughter of Reverend Robert Bruce, 1st of Kinnaird and Martha Douglas, after 12 January 1618.1 He died on 1 November 1640 at age 46.1
