     William Wilmer was born in October 1811 at Bath, Somerset, England.1 He was the son of Dr. Bradford Wilmer and Selina Rattray.1 He married Margaret Jane White on 26 February 1835 at Cawnpore, India.1 He died in 1858 at Colaba, Bombay, India, from smallpox.1
     He gained the rank of Cornet in 1830 in the 16th Queens Light Dragoons, Indian Army.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1833.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1839 in the 16th Lancers.1 He fought in the Gwalior Campaign in 1843.1 He fought in the Sikh Wars between 1848 and 1849.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1853.1

     From 26 February 1835, her married name became Wilmer.1
