     He was educated at City of London School, London, England^G.¹ He was with the Indian Civil Service in 1873.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1900.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Star of India (C.S.I.) in 1906.¹ He held the office of Lieutenant-Governor of Eastern Bengal and Assam between 1906 and 1911.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Star of India (K.C.S.I.) in 1907.¹

     Eva Hare is the daughter of Alfred Richard Hare and Alice Emily Ogilvy Millar.¹ She married Lewis Clayton, son of Rt. Rev. unknown Clayton, on 23 December 1914 at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Street, Chelsea, London, England.¹
     From 23 December 1914, her married name became Clayton.¹

     Lewis Clayton is the son of Rt. Rev. unknown Clayton.¹ He married Eva Hare, daughter of Alfred Richard Hare and Alice Emily Ogilvy Millar, on 23 December 1914 at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Street, Chelsea, London, England.¹

     He held the office of Suffragan Bishop of Pontefract between 1971 and 1992.¹
