     He was educated at Bryanston School, Blandford, Dorset, England.¹ He was HM Prison Service.¹ He was governor of Oxford Prison between 1957 and 1973.¹ He was awarded the honorary degree of Master of Arts (M.A.) by Wadham College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1973.¹ He was governor of Bedford Prison.¹ He lived at 11 St Loyes Street, Bedford, Bedfordshire, England.¹

     John Edgell Rickword was born on 22 October 1898 at Colchester, Essex, England.² He married Margaret McGrath in 1920.² He died on 15 March 1982 at age 83.²
     He lived at London, England.¹ John Edgell Rickword usually went by his middle name of Edgell.² He fought in the First World War between 1916 and 1918, where he was wounded twice, losing the sight in one eye.² He gained the rank of Subaltern in the Royal Berkshire Regiment.² He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1918.²

     Pamela Jane Brown Rickword is the daughter of John Edgell Rickword and Margaret McGrath.^2,3 She married Dermot O’Callaghan Grubb, son of George Herbert Grubb and Hilda Lilias Midgley, on 21 March 1952.¹
     From 21 March 1952, her married name became Grubb.¹

     Thomas Jonathan Grubb was born on 29 May 1958.¹ He is the son of Dermot O’Callaghan Grubb and Pamela Jane Brown Rickword.²

     Louise Miriam Grubb was born on 22 June 1961.¹ She is the daughter of Dermot O’Callaghan Grubb and Pamela Jane Brown Rickword.²

     Louis Arthur Grubb was born in 1884.¹ He was the son of George Grubb and Louie Mayer.² He died in 1905, unmarried.¹

     Rebecca Evelyn Grubb was born in 1880.¹ She was the daughter of George Grubb and Louie Mayer.² She died in 1881.¹

     Edward Grubb was born on 17 November 1847 at Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.¹ He was the son of Thomas Grubb and Elizabeth Fisher.² He married Eliza Jane Schofield in July 1873 at Halifax, Yorkshire, England.¹ He died in 1875, killed on duty.¹

     Eliza Jane Schofield was born on 20 March 1846.² She married Edward Grubb, son of Thomas Grubb and Elizabeth Fisher, in July 1873 at Halifax, Yorkshire, England.¹ She died circa 1927.²
     From July 1873, her married name became Grubb.¹

     Ernest Edmund Grubb was born on 13 July 1874 at 18 Frank Fort Avenue, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.^1,2 He was the son of Edward Grubb and Eliza Jane Schofield.³ He married, firstly, Sarah Margaret Young in 1897.¹ He married, secondly, Elizabeth Farquharson in 1912.¹ He died in 1949 at Transvaal, South Africa.²
