Rt. Rev. John Martindale Speechly1 
Rt. Rev. John Martindale Speechly was born on 13 November 1836 at Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He was the son of Thomas Kelfull Speechly and Sarah Bellers.2 He married Mary Gray Grove, daughter of Major Henry Jones Grove and Mary Anne Sinclair, on 6 January 1863 at Trivandrum, Madras, India.1,2 He died on 22 January 1898 at age 61 at Faversham, Kent, England.1,2
He was educated in 1859 at St. John’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He was with the Church Missionary Society in 1862 at India.2 He was Principal between 1863 and 1869 at C.M.S. Cambridge Nicholson Institute, Cottayam, India.2 He was Curate between 1871 and 1872 at Hatford, Berkshire, England.2 He was Principal between 1873 and 1876 at C.M.S. Cambridge Nicholson Institute, Cottayam, India.2 He was Curate between 1876 and 1877 at St. Mark’s, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He was Curate in 1878 at Horringer, Suffolk, England.2 He held the office of Bishop of Travancore, South India between 1879 and 1889.1,2 He graduated with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)1
