     He was educated at Royal Naval College, Darmouth, Devon, England.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in dispatches.1 He gained the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (D.S.C.)1 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1963.1
