John Williams was born on 22 March 1582.1 He was the son of Edmund Williams and Mary Wynn.3 He died on 25 March 1650 at age 68 at Gloddaeth, Eglws-Rhos, Caernarvonshire, Wales, unmarried.4
He graduated with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)1 He held the office of Lord Keeper of the Great Seal in 1620.1 He held the office of Bishop of Lincoln between 1621 and 1641.1 He held the office of Dean of Sarum and Westminster Seal 1620.1 He bought back Cochwillan and Penrhyn from his cousin Pierce Griffith.1 He held the office of Archbishop of York between 1641 and 1650.4
