He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Signals.1 He gained the rank of Pilot Officer in the Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force.1 He graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1953 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He lived in 2003 at Le Bons Bay, Akaroa, New Zealand.1
