     He was educated at Shrewsbury School, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.¹ He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.¹ He fought in the Second World War, and became a POW in Italy, and lost a leg when the camp was bombed.¹ He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1945.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Plymouth Sutton between 1959 and 1966.¹
