     Vice-Admiral Sir Iwan Geoffrey Raikes was born on 21 April 1921 at Weymouth, Dorset, England.² He was the son of Admiral Sir Robert Henry Taunton Raikes.² He married Primrose Cecilia Hunt, daughter of Benedict Philip Gerald Hunt and Gwendolyn Maud Hallowes, in 1947.² He died on 27 December 2011 at age 90 at Aberyscir, Powys, Wales.²
     He was educated at Royal Naval College, Darmouth, Devon, England.² He fought in the Second World War.² He was commander of the H.M. Submarine Sealion between 1941 and 1942.² He was commander of the H.M. Submarine Saracen between 1942 and 1943.² He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (D.S.C.) in 1943.² He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1967.² He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1973.² He was Commander of the Submarines, Eastern Atlantic Area between 1974 and 1976.² He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1976.² He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)¹
