     Lt.-Col. Ernest Hovell Thurlow was born on 14 September 1846.1 He was the son of Reverend Charles Augustus Thurlow and Frances Margaret Lethbridge.2 He married Celia Turner, daughter of Frederick T. Turner, on 29 August 1874.1 He died on 22 July 1936 at age 89.1
     He fought in the Zulu War in 1879.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps.1 He fought in the 1st Boer War in 1881.1

     From 23 April 1881, her married name became Thurlow. From 15 December 1898, her married name became Kilgour.1
