She wrote the book Jumping the Queue, published 1983.2 She wrote the book The Camomile Lawn, published 1984.2 She wrote the book Not That Sort of Girl, published 1987.2 She was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1995.2 She was appointed Fellow, Royal Society of Literature (F.R.S.L.) in 1997.2
