     Maj.-Gen. Sir James Rutherford Lumley was born in 1773.1 He was the son of Reverend James Lumley and Alice Rutherford.1 He was baptised on 22 December 1773 at Longford Hall, Newport, Shropshire, EnglandG.1 He married Caroline Wilkinson on 21 November 1809 at Calcutta, India.1 He died in 1846.2
     He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)2 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1833 in the Honourable East India Company.1 He was Adjutant-General of the East India Army.3
