     He was educated at Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.¹ He was educated at Trinity College, Glenalmond, Perthshire, Scotland.¹ He graduated from Pembroke College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He was educated at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for North Angus and Mearns between 1964 and 1991.¹ He held the office of Parliamentary Under-Secretary, Home Affairs and Agriculture between 1970 and 1974.¹ He held the office of Minister of State, Agriculture Fisheries and Food between 1979 and 1983.¹ He held the office of Minister of State, Department of Energy between 1983 and 1987.¹ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1984.¹

     Thomas Lawrie was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)¹

     Janet Delahoy Lawrie is the daughter of Thomas Lawrie.² She married Hon. Alick Laidlaw Buchanan-Smith, son of Alick Drummond Buchanan-Smith, Baron Balerno and Mary Kathleen Smith, on 17 August 1956.¹
     From 17 August 1956, her married name became Buchanan-Smith. She was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1993.¹ She lived in 2003 at Cockeden, Cockburn, Balerno, Midlothian, Scotland.¹

     James Colquhoun Buchanan-Smith was born on 12 August 1962.¹ He is the son of Hon. Alick Laidlaw Buchanan-Smith and Janet Delahoy Lawrie.²
