     Edward Henry St. John was born on 15 August 1916.¹ He was the son of Reverend Frederick de Port St. John and Hannah Phoebe Mabel Pyrke.² He married, firstly, Sylvette Cargher, daughter of Jean Meer Cargher, on 3 August 1940.¹ He married, secondly, Valerie Erskine Winslow, daughter of Henry John Winslow, on 25 October 1955.¹ He died on 24 October 1994 at age 78.¹
     He graduated from Sydney University, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1937 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He graduated from Sydney University, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1940 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)¹ He was a practising barrister in 1940.¹ He fought in the Second World War between 1941 and 1944, in the Middle East and New Guinea.¹ He gained the rank of Captain between 1941 and 1944 in the Australian Imperial Forces.¹ He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1956.¹ He was chairman of the Australian Section of the International Commisison of Jurists
between 1961 and 1973.¹ He held the office of Member of the House of Representatives (M.H.R.) [New South Wales] between 1966 and 1969, for Warringah.¹ He wrote the book A Time To Speak, published 1969.¹ He wrote the book Judgement at Hiroshima, published 1995.¹

     Jean Meer Cargher lived at Strasbourg, Alsace, France.¹

     Sylvette Cargher was the daughter of Jean Meer Cargher.² She married Edward Henry St. John, son of Reverend Frederick de Port St. John and Hannah Phoebe Mabel Pyrke, on 3 August 1940.¹ She died on 13 August 1954.¹
     From 3 August 1940, her married name became St. John.

     Madeleine St. John was born on 12 November 1941.¹ She is the daughter of Edward Henry St. John and Sylvette Cargher.² She married Christopher Roger Tillam, son of Roger Tillam, in 1965.¹ She and Christopher Roger Tillam were divorced in 1972.¹
     She graduated from Sydney University, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ Her married name became Tillam. In 1972 her name was legally changed to St. John.¹
