Nicholas Moseley1 
Between 1643 and 1646 he was a royalist during the Civil War, hence his estates were confiscated (he redeemed them for a large fine.1 He wrote the book Psychosophia, or Natural and Divine Contemplations of the Passions and Faculties of the Soul of Man, published 1653.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Lancashire in 1660.1 He was Boroughreeve of Manchester from 1661 to 1662.1 He lived at Ancoats, EnglandG.1 He had another son (unmarried) and four daughters.1

He was admitted to Gray’s Inn.1 He was educated at Oriel College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He inherited the Hulme and Manchester estates from his cousin Anne Lady Bland.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1715.2 He built Manchester’s first Exchange building.1 He was created 1st Baronet Mosley, of Rolleston, co. Staffs [Great Britain] on 18 June 1720.1 In 1745 he was a Jacobite sympathise, and seems to have secretly harboured Prince Charles Edward the year before the Rising.1
