     He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England^G.¹ He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G.¹ He was educated at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada^G.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the Welsh Guards (Guards’ Armoured Division.)¹ He was president of Portals Holdings Limited.¹ He was awarded the Croix de Guerre, 2nd Class (Belgium.)¹ He was director of Royal Exchange Assurance Company Limited.¹ He was president and chairman of the YMCA South Region.¹ He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Portal of Malshanger, Church Oakley, co. Southampton [U.K., 1901] on 25 November 1955.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society of Arts (F.R.S.A.)¹ He held the office of High Sheriff of Hampshire in 1963.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) in 1967.¹ He was chairman of the YMCA National Commission in 1969.¹

     Rowena Selby was the daughter of Paul Selby.² She married Sir Francis Spencer Portal, 5th Bt., son of Sir Spencer John Portal, 4th Bt. and Mary Laura Florence Mure, on 9 December 1930.¹ She died on 17 August 1948.¹
     From 9 December 1930, her married name became Portal.¹ She lived at Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa.¹

     Rowena Jeanne Portal was born on 16 November 1931.¹ She is the daughter of Sir Francis Spencer Portal, 5th Bt. and Rowena Selby.² She married Richard James Livingstone Altham, son of Harry Surtees Altham and Winifred Alison Livingstone-Learmonth, on 28 September 1957.¹
     From 28 September 1957, her married name became Altham.¹ She lived at Crunnells Green House, Preston, Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England.¹

     Harry Surtees Altham was born on 30 November 1888 at 8 The Terrace, York Town, Frimley, Surrey, England.² He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Sir Edward Altham Altham and Georgina Emily Nichol.² He married Winifred Alison Livingstone-Learmonth, daughter of Somerville Reid Livingstone-Learmonth and Isabella Travers, on 27 June 1917 at Catherington, Hampshire, England.^2,3 He died on 11 March 1965 at age 76 at Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.²
     He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)¹ He lived at Winchester, Hampshire, England.¹ He held the office of Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)¹ He held the office of Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)¹

     Richard James Livingstone Altham was born on 19 January 1924 at Winchester, Hampshire, England.² He was the son of Harry Surtees Altham and Winifred Alison Livingstone-Learmonth.³ He married Rowena Jeanne Portal, daughter of Sir Francis Spencer Portal, 5th Bt. and Rowena Selby, on 28 September 1957.¹ He died on 17 August 2005 at age 81.²
