He was educated at Erasmus Smith School, Ennis, County Clare, Ireland.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1809 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was a practising barrister in 1811.1 He was frequently junior counsel to Daniel O’Connell to whose practice he later largely succeeded.1 He was appointed King’s Counsel (K.C.) in 1830.1 He held the office of Third Serjeant in 1831.1 He held the office of Bencher of King’s Inns in 1832.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General [Ireland] between 1834 and 1835.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dungarvan
in 1835.1 He held the office of Attorney-General [Ireland] in 1835.1 He held the office of Baron of the Exchequer [Ireland] in 1836.1 He held the office of Master of the Rolls in 1837.1 He was created 1st Baronet O’Loghlen, of Drumconora, Ennis, Co. Clare [U.K., 1838] on 16 July 1838.1

Clare [U.K., 1838] on 28 September 1842.1 He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1852.1 He was chairman of the Quarter Sessions, Carlow between 1856 and 1859.1 He was chairman of the Quarter Sessions, Mayo between 1859 and 1861.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Clare between 1863 and 1877.1 He held the office of Third Serjeant [Ireland] in 1865.1 He held the office of Second Serjeant [Ireland] in 1866.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1868.1 He held the office of Judge Advocate-General [Ireland] between 1868 and 1870.1
