Henry Agar-Ellis, 3rd Viscount Clifden of Gowran1
Henry Agar-Ellis, 3rd Viscount Clifden of Gowran was born on 25 February 1825.3 He was the son of George James Welbore Agar-Ellis, 1st Baron Dover and Lady Georgiana Howard.3 He married Eliza Horatia Frederica Seymour, daughter of Frederick Charles William Seymour and Lady Augusta Hervey, on 23 September 1861.3 He died on 20 February 1866 at age 40 at Dover House, Whitehall, London, EnglandG, from softening of the brain.4 His will was proven (by probate) on 13 March 1866, at under £70,000.4
He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Dover, of Dover, Kent [U.K., 1831] on 10 July 1833.3 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Mendip of Mendip, co. Somerset [G.B., 1794] on 13 July 1836.5 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Clifden of Gowran, co. Kilkenny [I., 1781] on 13 July 1836.3 He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Clifden, Baron of Gowran, co. Kilkenny [I., 1776] on 13 July 1836.3 He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1845 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)3 He held the office of Gentleman of the Bedchamber to the Prince Consort between 1846 and 1852.3 In 1848 he won both the Derby and the St. Leger with ‘Surplice.4‘
