Captain Maurice Suckling was born on 4 May 1726 at Barsham, Suffolk, England.1 He was the son of Reverend Maurice Suckling and Mary Anne Turner.1 He married Hon. Mary Walpole, daughter of Horatio Walpole, 1st Baron Walpole of Wolterton and Mary Magdalen Lombard.3 He died on 17 July 1778 at age 52 at London, England.1 He was buried on 27 July 1778 at Barsham, Suffolk, England.1
He was the early patron of Admiral Lord Nelson.3 He fought in the Battle of Cape Francois on 21 October 1757, where he defeated a larger French force.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Portsmouth.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1 He held the office of Comptroller of the Navy in 1778.1
