     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.² He was educated at New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G.² He fought in the Second World War, with the Royal Artillery.² He was Reader in Assyriologist and scholar of the Hittites between 1945 and 1978.² He wrote the book The Hittites, published 1952.² He was appointed Fellow, British Academy (F.B.A.) in 1959.²

     Diane Hope Esencourt was born in 1920.¹ She was the daughter of René Hugo Esencourt and Hope Amy Constance Preston.^1,2 She married, firstly, Geoffrey George William Grazebrook.¹ She married, secondly, Oliver Robert Gurney, son of Robert Gurney and Sarah Gamzu Garstang, in 1957 at Adingdon, Berkshire, England.³ She died on 8 December 2009.¹
