     He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England^G.¹ He fought in the First World War, in Egypt and Salonika.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1916 in the 2nd East Surrey Regiment.¹ He was with the Indian Civil Service between 1920 and 1948.¹ He graduated from King’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, in 1925 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was admitted to Gray’s Inn in 1926 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1937.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Star of India (C.S.I.) in 1947.¹

     Irene Beatrice King was the daughter of Frederick Hamilton King.¹ She married Austen Havelock Layard, son of Sir Charles Peter Layard and Ada Alexandrina Julius, on 3 January 1927 at Bombay, India.¹ She died on 26 June 1943.¹
     From 3 January 1927, her married name became Layard.¹

     Frederick Hamilton King lived at Lingwood, Liss, Hampshire, England.¹

     Nora Anne Layard was born on 10 June 1929.¹ She is the daughter of Austen Havelock Layard and Irene Beatrice King.¹ She married Robert Hamilton Wright, son of Robert M. Wright, on 10 June 1950.¹
