     He fought in the Boer War between 1901 and 1902.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 2nd Dragoon Guards, Queen’s Bays.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Engineers.1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre du Mérite Maritime in 1936.1
