He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 3rd Battalion, Black Watch.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1895 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Murray, of Ochtertyre, co. Perth [N.S., 1673] on 10 January 1921.1
