     Edward Feetham Coates, 1st Bt. was born on 28 February 1853.¹ He was the son of James Coates and Elizabeth Sayer.² He married Edith Woolley, daughter of unknown Woolley, on 30 April 1878.¹ He died on 14 August 1921 at age 68.¹
     He gained the rank of Captain and Honorary Major in the 3rd Battalion, Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment.¹ He was member of Coates, Son & Company, stockbrokers.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Lewisham between 1903 and 1918.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Coates, of Helperby Hall, Helperby, co. York [U.K.] on 29 June 1911.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for West Lewisham between 1918 and 1921.¹

     William James Coates was born on 9 December 1855.¹ He was the son of James Coates and Elizabeth Sayer.² He died on 15 August 1948 at age 92, unmarried.¹
     He gained the rank of Captain in the West Yorkshire Regiment.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for the West Riding, Yorkshire.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for the North Riding, Yorkshire.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of the North Riding, Yorkshire.¹ He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)¹

     Reverend Charles Hutton Coates was born on 5 April 1857.¹ He was the son of James Coates and Elizabeth Sayer.² He married Frances Mary Richardson, daughter of Joseph Richardson, on 21 April 1892.¹ He died on 15 February 1922 at age 64.¹
     He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He gained the rank of Chaplain in the Royal Navy.¹ He was Rector in 1898 at Burton Agnes, Yorkshire, England.¹ He was Rural Dean of Bridlington in 1904.¹

     Joseph Richardson lived at Potto Hall, Yorkshire, England.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for South-East Durham.¹

     Frances Mary Richardson was the daughter of Joseph Richardson.² She married Reverend Charles Hutton Coates, son of James Coates and Elizabeth Sayer, on 21 April 1892.¹ She died on 31 December 1943.¹
     From 21 April 1892, her married name became Coates.

     Annie Elizabeth Hutton Coates was born on 9 February 1893.¹ She was the daughter of Reverend Charles Hutton Coates and Frances Mary Richardson.² She died on 1 July 1959 at age 66, unmarried.¹

     Margaret Anne Coates is the daughter of James Coates and Elizabeth Sayer.²
