David Pitcairn Thoms1

     David Pitcairn Thoms was born on 1 October 1813.1 He was the son of George Thoms and Elizabeth Hunter.2 He married Ellen Maria Ingraham, daughter of Duncan Ingraham, on 6 May 1843 at Calcutta, India.1,3 He died on 8 September 1857 at age 43 at Singapore Hospital for Convicts, Singapore.1,3
     In 1836 his company, Low & Thomas, flax-spinners, became insolvent.3 In July 1847 his company, Thoms, Touche and Company, agents and merchants, became insolvent.3 He murdered Ellen Maria Ingraham on 26 February 1855 at Calcutta, India, murdered by her husband.1,3 On 26 March 1855 at Calcutta, India, he was found guilty of murdering his wife, and sentenced to hang, but then reprieved after considerable lobbying from the community of Calcutta.3

     Ellen Maria Ingraham was born circa 1819.2 She was the daughter of Duncan Ingraham.2 She married David Pitcairn Thoms, son of George Thoms and Elizabeth Hunter, on 6 May 1843 at Calcutta, India.1,2 She was murdered on 26 February 1855 at Calcutta, India, by David Pitcairn Thoms, murdered by her husband.1,2
     From 6 May 1843, her married name became Thoms.2
