John McComie, 1st of Forter1
He served under Montrose, traditionally capturing Sir William Forbes of Craigievar at Aberdeen, but abandoned the royalist cause after Philiphaugh, for which he was heavily fined after the Restoration, and a feud with the Farquharsons of Broughdearg and the litigation resulting from it completed the financial ruin of the family.1 He was also known as Iain ‘Mor’.1 He purchased Finegand in 1652.1 In 1665 he led his following in support of Lachlan, 19th of Mackintosh against the Camerons.1 He lived at Forter, Glenisla, Angus, Scotland.1
