John Lindsay, 6th of Dowhill was the son of Adam Lindsay, 5th of Dowhill.2 He married Marjory Stewart, daughter of Sir James Stewart of Beath and Margaret Lindsay.2 He died in 1566.1

James Lindsay, 7th of Dowhill was the son of John Lindsay, 6th of Dowhill.2 He married Janet Ross, daughter of James Ross of Craigie.1 He died in 1591.1
In 1567 he reputedly helped Mary, Queen of Scots, escape from Lochleven.1 He had nine other children.1
