He was Commissioner for executing Lieutenantcy of the City of London in 1885.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for City of London.1 He held the office of Sheriff of London in 1889.1 He held the office of Lord Mayor of London in 1893.1 He was created 1st Baronet Knill, of The Grove, Blackheath and Fresh Wharf, London [U.K.] on 11 August 1893.1
