Thomas Pemberton-Leigh, 1st and last Baron Kingsdown1 
He was given the name of Thomas Pemberton at birth.1 He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn in 1816 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He was appointed King’s Counsel (K.C.) in 1829.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Rye between 1831 and 1832.1 On 7 March 1834 his name was legally changed to Thomas Pemberton-Leigh by Royal Licence, after inheriting a life interest in the Wigan estates of Sir Robert Leigh, Bt.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Ripon between 1835 and 1843.1 He was Attorney-General to HRH The Prince of Wales between 1841 and 1843.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1843.1 He held the office of Chancellor of the Duchy of Cornwall between 1843 and 1861.1 He was created 1st Baron Kingsdown, of Kingsdown, co. Kent [U.K.] on 28 August 1858.1
