He was given the name of Jabez Edward Johnson at birth.1 Sir Jabez Edward Johnson-Ferguson, 1st Bt. usually went by his middle name of Edward.1 He graduated from St. John’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was a practising barrister.1 In 1881 his name was legally changed to Jabez Edward Johnson-Ferguson.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Loughborough between 1885 and 1886.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Loughborough between 1892 and 1900.1 On 2 December 1899 his name was legally changed to Jabez Edward Johnson-Ferguson by Royal Licence.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Lancashire.1 He was created 1st Baronet Johnson-Ferguson, of Springkell, co. Dumfries, Kenyon, Newchurch-in-Culcheth, co. Palatine, Lancashire and Wiston, co. Lanark [U.K.] on 18 July 1906.1
