John Charles Wallop, 3rd Earl of Portsmouth was born on 18 December 1767.1 He was the son of John Wallop, 2nd Earl of Portsmouth and Urania Fellowes.1 He married, firstly, Hon. Grace Norton, daughter of Fletcher Norton, 1st Lord Grantley, Baron of Markenfield and Grace Chapple, on 19 November 1799.1 He married, secondly, Mary Anne Hanson, daughter of John Hanson, on 7 March 1814.2 He and Mary Anne Hanson were divorced in 1823 on the grounds of his unsoundness of mind.2 He died on 14 July 1853 at age 85, without issue.1
He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Portsmouth, co. Southampton [G.B., 1743] on 16 May 1797.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Wallop, of Farley Wallop, co. Southampton [G.B., 1720] on 16 May 1797.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Lymington, County of Southampton [G.B., 1720] on 16 May 1797.2
