     Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal was born on 6 August 1820 at Scotland^G.¹ He was the son of Alexander Smith and Barbara Stuart.^1,2 He married Isabella Sophia Hardisty, daughter of Richard Hardisty, on 9 March 1853.³ He died on 21 January 1914 at age 93 at England.¹
     He was clerk with the Hudson Bay Company in 1838 at Canada^G.¹ He was Chief Factor of the Hudson Bay Company in 1862.³ He was Governor of the Hudson Bay Company in 1869.¹ He was Special Commissioner of Red River Settlements between 1869 and 1870, throughout Riel Rebellion.³ He was Chief Commissioner of the Fur Trade between 1870 and 1874.³ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [Canada] between 1871 and 1879, for Selkirk.³ He was Land Commissioner between 1874 and 1879.³ In 1879 he helped complete the greater part of the Great Northern Railway.¹ In 1885 he helped complete the Canadian Pacific Railway.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [Quebec] between 1887 and 1896, for Montreal.¹ He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1896.³ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Canada] in 1896.³ He held the office of Canadian High Commissioner to the U.K. between 1896 and 1914.¹ He was created 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, of Glencoe, co. Argyll, and of Mount Royal, Quebec, Canada [U.K.] on 23 August 1897.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Argyllshire.³ He raised Strathcona’s Horse for the Boer War.¹ He was created 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, of Mount Royal, Quebec, Canada and of Glencoe, co. Argyll [U.K.] on 26 June 1900, with a special remainder to his daughter and her heirs.¹ He was member of the Royal Commission for the Boer War in 1902.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1904.³ He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1908.³

     Alexander Smith was born in 1780.² He married Barbara Stuart, daughter of Donald Stuart, in 1813.² He died on 3 March 1847.¹
     He lived at Archieston, Morayshire, Scotland^G.¹ He also had three daughters (died unmarried.)²

     Isabella Sophia Hardisty was born circa 1824.² She was the daughter of Richard Hardisty.¹ She married Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, son of Alexander Smith and Barbara Stuart, on 9 March 1853.² She died on 12 November 1913.¹
     Her married name became Grant.² From 9 May 1853, her married name became Smith.¹ After her marriage, Isabella Sophia Hardisty was styled as Baroness Strathcona and Mount Royal on 23 August 1897.

     Richard Hardisty was Chief Factor of the Hudson Bay Company.¹

     Theodora Duer was the daughter of Major John Duer.¹ She married Rt. Hon. George Rose, son of David Rose, on 7 July 1769.¹ She died on 6 November 1834.¹
     From 7 July 1769, her married name became Rose.¹

     William Stewart Rose was the son of Rt. Hon. George Rose and Theodora Duer.¹ He died in 1843.¹
     He was a poet.¹

     Frances Theodora Rose was the daughter of Rt. Hon. George Rose and Theodora Duer.¹ She died in 1846, unmarried.¹

     Alexander Rose was the son of David Rose, 1st of Earlsmill.¹ He died circa 1725.¹

     David Rose, 1st of Earlsmill was born in 1592.¹ He was the son of William Rose, 11th of Kilravock and Lilias Hay.^2,3 He married Christian Cuthbert, daughter of James Cuthbert of Drakies.⁴ He died on 30 May 1669.¹
