Britannia, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Flag Lieutenant and Flag Lieutenant-Commander between 1913 and 1918 in the Grand Fleet and North America and West India Station.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was member of the Allied Naval Armistice Commission between 1918 and 1919.1 He was member of the Naval Inter-Allied Commission of Control between 1919 and 1920.1 He retired from the military in 1920, with the rank of Commander, late of the Royal Navy.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Surrey in 1927.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Epsom between 1928 and 1947.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Surrey in 1933.1 He held the office of a Lord Commissioner of Treasury between 1935 and 1937.1 He was created 1st Baronet Southby, of Burford, co. Oxford [U.K.] on 12 June 1937.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Oxfordshire between 1938 and 1946.1 He held the office of Younger Brother, Trinity House in 1944.1 He was awarded the Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.1
