Charles William Frederick Hope, 3rd Marquess of Linlithgow


Charles William Frederick Hope, 3rd Marquess of Linlithgow was born on 7 April 1912.2 He was the son of Victor Alexander John Hope, 2nd Marquess of Linlithgow and Doreen Maud Milner. He married, firstly, Vivien Kenyon-Slaney, daughter of Major Robert Orlando Rodolph Kenyon-Slaney and Lady Mary Cecilia Rhodesia Hamilton, on 24 July 1939.2 He married, secondly, Judith Lawson, daughter of Stanley Matthew Lawson, on 15 February 1965.3 He died on 7 April 1987 at age 75 at Westminster, London, England.2,1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1936 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Scots Guards.2 He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1940, where he became a POW.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the Lothian an Border Horse, Royal armoured Corps (TA.)2 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)2 He succeeded as the 9th Viscount of Aithrie [S., 1703] on 5 January 1952.4 He succeeded as the 3rd Marquess of Linlithgow [U.K., 1902] on 5 January 1952.2 He succeeded as the 9th Earl of Hopetoun [S., 1703] on 5 January 1952.4 He succeeded as the 6th Baron Niddry of Niddry, co. Linlithgow [U.K., 1814] on 5 January 1952.4 He succeeded as the 9th Lord Hope [S., 1703] on 5 January 1952.4 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of West Lothian between 1964 and 1987.2
