     He was educated at Sherborne School, Sherborne, Dorset, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He retired from the military in 1969, with the rank of Major, late of the Black Watch.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Wigtownshire between 1970 and 1989.2 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Wigtownshire in 1989.2 He lived in 2003 at Dunskey, Portpatrick, Stranraer, Wigtownshire, ScotlandG.1
