     John Kyrle Hickman was born on 3 July 1927.1 He was the son of John Barlow Hickman and Joan Hankinson.2 He married Jennifer Olive Love, daughter of Reginald Kendall Love, on 4 April 1956.1 He died on 23 February 2001 at age 73.1
     He was educated at Tonbridge School, Tonbridge, Kent, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was with the Diplomatic Service between 1966 and 1987.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1977.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Ecuador between 1977 and 1981.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Chile between 1982 and 1987.1 He wrote the book The Enchanted Islands: the Galapagos Discovered, published 1985.1 He was director of Anaconda Inc (South America) in 1988.1
