     He was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.)¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Artillery.² He was Consul-General to Warsaw between 1876 and 1886.¹ He was Military Knight of Windsor.²

     Hon. Paul Ivy Sterling was Acting Chief Justice of Ceylon.¹

     Paulina Susannah Sterling was the daughter of Hon. Paul Ivy Sterling.² She married Colonel Francis Cornwallis Maude, V.C., son of Captain Hon. Francis Maude and Frances Brooking, on 24 January 1860.¹ She died on 26 February 1916.¹
     From 24 January 1860, her married name became Maude.

     Major Francis Sterling de Montalt Maude was born on 12 April 1867.¹ He was the son of Colonel Francis Cornwallis Maude, V.C. and Paulina Susannah Sterling.² He married Violet Brenda Ashton, daughter of John Howard Ashton, on 17 February 1898.¹ He died on 16 September 1940 at age 73.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Garrison Regiment.¹ He gained the rank of Major in the West African Regiment.¹

     John Howard Ashton held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)¹ He lived at Hatfield Court, Herefordshire, England^G.¹
