     Sir John Hamilton, 5th of Orbiston was the son of John Hamilton, 4th of Orbiston and Christian Dalzell.2 He married, secondly, Rachel Bonar, daughter of James Bonar, 8th of Rossie and Euphemia Kinnear.3 He married, firstly, Bethia Henderson, daughter of Sir John Henderson, 4th of Fordell and Agnes Balfour.2 He died after 1638.3
     He held the office of Lord Justice Clerk [Scotland].2 He held the office of Lord of Session.2 Bought among other properties the (territorial) Barony of Erskine in Renfrewshire and Dumbartonshire (formerly property of the Erskine Earls of Mar.)1 His descendants became extinct on death of his grandson William, 7th of Orbiston.1

James Hamilton, 1st of Dalzell1

     James Hamilton, 1st of Dalzell was the son of John Hamilton, 4th of Orbiston and Christian Dalzell.2 He married, firstly, Beatrice Fleming.1 He married, thirdly, Isobel Hamilton, daughter of Sir James Hamilton of Broomhill, 1st Bt. and Margaret Hamilton.1 He married, secondly, Jean Henderson, daughter of Sir John Henderson, 4th of Fordell and Anna Halkett, circa 1643.2 He died in February 1668.3
     He prospered by trade, in particular army contracts during Cromwellian wars.1 He held the office of Burgess of Glasgow in 1632.1 In 1647 granted territorial Barony of Dalzell, resigned by the Earl and Countess of Carnwath.1 He was Commissioner of Supply for Lanarkshire in 1655.1
